An Easy Knit Hat To Wear Two Ways

Hello! It's been awhile since I've shown my face around here, but I always find it best to have an actual person wear hats that I knit in photographs because it better represents how the hat lays. Since I am the only woman in our house, that model usually ends up being me for ladies' designs even though I don't prefer to have my picture taken. The beauty of this hat - other than the lovely texture created by the different ribbing in the pattern - is that you can wear it super slouchy or folded over for two very different looks. 

If you are looking for a quick and easy knit for yourself or a last minute holiday gift, this hat is a great option. I made two of these hats in one week last year, but forgot to take photos before I gave them away as Christmas gifts. It took me nearly a year to get the hat back, but it was worth the wait. The pattern is called the Sparkle Slouchy Hat by Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich and is available in the book Stitch Mountain. I rarely purchase knitting books, but this one is reasonably priced and has a bunch of cute patterns in it. The book is available on Amazon and at Jimmy Beans. If you can't find the book online or at your local yarn store, check with your local library (you are a member and support your local library, right?).

The suggested sparkly yarn was discontinued, so I substituted with Plymouth Homestead in a solid teal shade. Plymouth is a Peruvian wool Aran weight yarn that held up well over the past year. The best part is that the skeins are under $10 US each.   

One thing to note is that you want the hat to fit a little bit loosely so the slouchy part lays right on your head. If I make another one of these, I may swatch with one size larger needle, but check your gauge. The pattern was so easy to follow and turned out beautifully that I didn't make any changes.
