A Chevron Baby Blanket
Years ago, my mom made me a crochet chevron blanket and I still use it all the time. Chevron blankets are a great way to personalize a blanket with colors, so I recently knit this one for a special baby. The pattern is a free download on the Espace Tricot website. The yarn is Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Worsted, which is 100% organic cotton. The pattern includes color suggestions for girl and boy blankets, but the mom I was knitting this for didn’t find out the gender while she was pregnant, so I needed neutral colors. I selected the different shades of teals in the photos.
Here are the colors that I used for a gender neutral baby blanket:
1 skein Caribbean #633 – (Colour A)
1 skein Jasper #636 – (Colour B)
1 skein Tulip #615 – (Colour C)
1 skein Aloe #604 – (Colour D)
1 skein Lemon Grass #607 – (Colour E)
The blanket was super fun to knit and went quickly, but I struggled with the finishing. I always wash or block baby gifts before I send them, so the item is ready to use and there won’t be any surprises. For this blanket, I wet blocked it with Soak Wash as I have with so many other projects and laid it flat to dry, but the cotton absorbed so much water that the blanket unexpectedly doubled in length. The width ended up as indicated in the pattern. It was really too long for the width, so I put it in the drier in a lingerie bag. The blanket shrank to a more normal looking size, but the cotton pilled a bit. I’m not entirely happy with how this turned out, but the blanket still looks lovely and feels wonderfully soft. I will use this pattern again, but I may opt for a different yarn.
And how cute is our new cat, Rafael? We adopted him in May from a local shelter. He is fun and sassy and beautiful. He’s also very loud, but loveable. It’s great to have younger energy in the house.
Hope you had a great 2019!
