Valentine's Day Heart
Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours! I was single for many years before I met my fiance, but I never had a bad attitude about Valentine's Day. It's probably because I'm partial to any holiday that encourages eating and chocolate.
This year I bought my fiance a monogrammed bathrobe for Valentine's Day. The box was large and we didn't have any wrapping paper suitable for a gift for a man, so I improvised and made this sweet little heart by weaving (yes!) a heart out of sparkly wrapping paper and gussying up the rest of the box with more sparkly gold hearts of different sizes.
This is super simple to make. All you have to do is:
- Download a heart template or make your own. I used a large printable heart because my freehand drawing isn't great.
- Trace 2 hearts of the same size and cut them out. I used scraps of gold glitter wrapping paper from Paper Source leftover from the Save the Dates we made for our wedding because that's what I had handy but you can use regular construction paper or any pattern, rainbow or ombre that you like.
- Cut one heart into horizontal strips and the other into vertical strips. The strips I made were approximately 1 inch wide. If you want to be fancy, you could cut the strips diagonally or in another pattern.
- Assemble the strips by laying the vertical pieces (the warp) in front of you with only a tiny bit of space between the strips. Carefully weave the horizontal strips through the vertical strips. I found it helpful to assemble the middle and bottom part of the heart and put a tiny piece of double sided tape on the back of the bottom piece to hold it in place while I assemble the other parts.
- If necessary, use a tiny bit of glue or tape on some of the outside back pieces so that the heart stays together.
- Secure the heart to your project.
You can wrap the package or leave it as one simple heart on the box or, if the box is large, add additional hearts or decorations. This would also be a really cute addition to a simple homemade card.
