Portland Visit
I had a great surprise Valentine’s celebration in Portland over the weekend. We wandered around downtown in the misty, northwest rain, drank coffee at Stumptown (my favorite!), bought specialty gum drops and lollipops at Quin and stood in a longish line in on-again off-again rain for a dozen donuts at Voodoo Doughnut. I loved the glitter covered walls.
My favorite donuts were Captain my Captain (covered in Captain Crunch), Marshall Mathers (covered in mini M&Ms), Chocolate Cake and Toasted Coconut.
We also spent the better part of two days at Powell’s Books where I purchased about 10 weaving and bead weaving books. Nothing beats a used bookstore if you are looking for instructional books about weaving and I wasn’t disappointed at Powell’s. The section on weaving was small, but better than most book stores and old weaving books are definitely the way to go if you want good explanations. I can't wait to read my new books.
If you go to Portland, there are plenty of hotels in the area (over the years, we've stayed at the Marriott and also the Westin) near Powell's Books. I like that neighborhood because it is walkable to the train station as well as the food trucks, great shopping and restaurants.
