What Size to Weave Items
Anytime I weave something new, I'm never sure how long to make the item. Over the last few days, I spent a bunch of time measuring different items in my home and came up with the following measurements as general guides for commonly woven items:
Clothing
Women's Scarves - Short: 12" x 42" or 15" x 48" Long/Standard: 30" x 80"
Men's Scarves - 14" x 50" or longer if he is tall. I had a special request for a knit scarf that was 82" long. It also depends on whether he wraps the scarf all the way around his neck or just lets it hang.
Wraps/Shawl - 21" x 72" or 30" x 72"
Neckerchief - 36" x 36"
Kitchen and Dining
Dishtowel - 17" x 30" or 20" x 36"
Place Mat - 13" x 19"
Napkins - 18" x 18"
Table Runner - At least 14" x 28". Longer if you want it to go over the sides of the table
Kitchen Rug - 22" x 35"
Bedding and Blankets
Throws - 50" x 60" or 66" x 54"
Blankets -
Twin - 66" x 96"
Full/Queen - 90" x 96"
King - 90" x 108"
Baby Carriage Blanket - 30" x 42"
Baby Floor Blanket - 40" x 60"
Pillows - Vary depending on what you like.
Bathroom
Bath Mat - 34" x 21" (most common), 17" x 24", 30" x 50" and 30" x 72"
Hand towels - 16" x 28" or 16" x 32"
Finger towels - 11' x 18"
Wash cloths - 13" x 13"
Please note that all measurements are without fringe and a lot of these are approximate (throws, blankets, rugs, etc.). It is at your discretion whether you like items larger or smaller. Also, keep in mind that either the warp or weft may contract depending on the type of loom and yarn that you are using. Do not forget to add extra warp. This information was also added to the Learn pull down on the tool bar at the top of the page in case you need to easily find it again.
