Knit Before Christmas Stockings

If you are looking for an incredibly easy Christmas stocking to knit, you can stop right here! I wasn’t planning to knit any Christmas stockings, but I felt inspired when I saw this pattern and I am really glad that I went for it. These knit stockings turned out SO well. The yarn is chunky, so it knits up very quickly. Each stocking took me a few hours from start to finish and I think it would be quick for an advanced beginner, too.

For yarn, I chose Plymouth Encore Mega because it is available at my local yarn shop in a variety of different colors and is significantly cheaper than the suggested yarn in the pattern. You may have noticed that I am not usually a stickler for yarn prices, but I didn’t want to spend a lot on these because they will only be used as décor for a few days a year. The yarn is 75% Acrylic and 25% Wool, so it should hold up well over time.

The pattern is available for free on the Purl Soho blog. They used super fun, non-traditional colors for their stockings, but I opted for more traditional color combinations so the stockings will match my holiday décor. I followed the pattern exactly as written. The only tricky part was knitting the short rows in the heel both because the needles were large and it’s a technique that I only use once or twice a year, so I always have to watch a video to refresh my memory of how to do it. The finished stocking measures approximately inches long and inches wide.

I have to warn you: you are going to want to make more than one of these!
