Overshot Table Runner Reprised
You may recall that I wove an overshot table runner in a snails trail and cats paw pattern in April. I was not entirely happy with the spacing and the beat, so I changed the sett from 22 epi to 24 epi and viola! I love the result!
Squaring the squares was much easier with the sett at 24. It's a bit difficult to look at in the photo, but is beautiful in person. The warp and tabby are 10/2 perle cotton and the red weft is 3/2 perle cotton.
Edit: If you are interested in weaving this, please note that the photo in the Davidson book does not match up to the pattern on the page (the photo even has 6 lines of snail trail, but the pattern only includes 5 as you can see in the photo of my sample). The right side works out beautifully as written, but I added a balance of additional repeats of the first three sets of 16 on the left side. It is threaded with two full repeats of the whole threading plus an additional threading of only the three sets of 16. I had a total of 296 ends, which ended up at about 12.33 inches wide. For the weft, the pattern as written starts with the cats paw, but I modified it to start with the snail trail so it would balance at the top and bottom. To do this, start weaving the pattern at the sets of 3s. If you do weave this, please post photos in the comments. I'd love to see them. Happy weaving!
