Wandering Vine Variation

There was a bit of warp left over after I finished two table runners on the Wandering Vine (also known as Snail Trail and Cat's Paw) pattern, so I created these variations. I've written before that I sometimes purposely add extra warp to try new techniques and this was the case here! I really enjoy trying patterns, new techniques and design elements.

This first variation is the main pattern, but I used small balls of yellow yarn (similar to tapestry butterflies or color work in knitting) to form accent flowers and pink yarn for the middle of the flowers. I tried red in the middle, but it reminded me a of a large fast food chain, so I went with pink instead. The weaving was kind of tricky because I had to make sure to put the blue main yarn behind at just the right place and attempted to make the least tangled mess possible on the back. It took me a lot longer to weave the sections with yellow, but it was worth it and I will weave with more colors again soon.    

The second variation involves repeats of only the snail trail part of the pattern. I carefully wound three colors of 10/2 perle cotton onto a bobbin to form the overshot warp thread. I used 10/2 Lunatic Fringe perle cotton in Green, Purple and Red Purple (it looks pink). I was a little afraid that this would turn into a huge knotted mess while winding the bobbin, but I made sure not to get over zealous with my winding and it worked out. The warp is 10/2 UKI perle cotton in Natural. I like the tie dye look of weft.
